June 3rd – Window of Opportunity?

What I’m Reading

Window of Opportunity? Amazon’s warehouse pullback is being viewed by some as an opportunity for logistics companies who have been largely boxed out by the e-commerce giant in recent years to pick up choice locations. Bisnow

Instant Gratification: The recent proliferation of delivery apps that promise to bring goods to your door within 15 minutes are just the latest push by companies to give consumers near-instant gratification.  However, it raises serious safety concerns (see Domino’s 30 minute guarantee in the 1990s), not to mention that none of them have shown any move towards profitability and are highly reliant on VC cash to burn. Strained: Housing affordability is at its worst level since 1991 – excluding the bubble years.  The big difference today is that we don’t have “affordability products” that make owning a home seem more expensive than it actually is.  Prices look strained by any measure at the moment.  Calculated Risk

Easing Up: Ship ques are down substantially at ports in California, Virginia and South Carolina.  It remains to be seen if this reprieve is durable or simply a calm before post-Shanghai-lockdown storm.  FreightWaves

Staying Power: Recent manufacturing and construction report toward continued growth, albeit at a slower pace than last year.  Bonddad Blog
